What we keep about you and your books, why, who else handles it, and what you can ask of us.
1. Who is responsible
G-SQUARE.AI LTD (company number 12096205, 7 Bell Yard, London, England, WC2A 2JR) runs audio-book.ai and decides how your data is used. Write to hello@audio-book.ai about anything in this policy.
2. What we keep, and why
| What | Why we keep it |
|---|---|
| Your account: your name, your email address and your password (kept only in a scrambled form we can't read back) | To give you an account and tell you about your books. This is needed for our contract with you. |
| Your books: the manuscripts you upload, your notes on how words should sound, voices you design, and the audio we make | To make your sample and your audiobook. Needed for our contract with you. |
| Payments: the amount, the date and PayPal's reference. We never receive your card details. | To take payment, and to keep the accounts the law requires. |
| Messages: what you write to us in the app or by email, our answers, and the emails we send you about your books | To help you, and to see what people need help with. Needed for our contract, and in our legitimate interest in running the service well. |
| Where you came from: if a link from another site, an advertisement or one of our emails brought you, we note which, and keep it with a new account | To know which of our efforts bring people. Our legitimate interest. |
| Server logs: our server records the requests it gets, with the IP address they came from | To find faults and stop abuse. Our legitimate interest. Kept only as long as that needs. |
We count visits to our pages without cookies and without keeping your IP address. A visit is counted under a code that changes every day and can't be traced back to a person, so we can't follow anyone from one day to the next.
We don't use your manuscript or your audiobook to train AI models, and we don't sell your data or share it with advertisers.
3. Who else handles it
We use these companies' services to run audio-book.ai. Each gets only what its job needs.
| Company | What it does for us |
|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services, in Stockholm, Sweden | Runs our servers and stores your account, your manuscripts and your audio. The narration itself runs on our own machines there. |
| PayPal | Takes your payment. PayPal has its own privacy policy for what you give it. |
| Twilio SendGrid, United States | Delivers the emails we send you, so it handles your email address and those emails. |
| Google (Google Workspace) | Holds our mailbox, so it handles the emails you send us. |
| OpenRouter, United States | When our automatic listening check is unsure about a passage, that short passage and what the voice was heard to say are sent to a language model for a second opinion. Nothing about you is sent with it. |
Our pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google for them when you open a page.
Some of these companies are outside the United Kingdom. Where your data leaves the UK, we rely on the safeguards the law provides for that, such as the UK's adequacy decisions and standard contractual clauses.
4. How long we keep it
- Your account and your books: until you delete them. Deleting a book removes its manuscript, its samples and its audio straight away. We keep the record of the order (its title, its length and any payment).
- The audio of a free sample is removed after 90 days.
- Payment records: six years, as company law requires.
- Backups of our database, which hold account and order records but no manuscripts or audio: 90 days.
- To close your account and have what we hold about you deleted, write to us. We then keep only what the law obliges us to.
5. Cookies
We set one cookie, when you sign in, to keep you signed in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies, so there is nothing to accept or refuse.
6. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to stop or limit how we use it, or to hand it to you in a form you can take elsewhere. Write to hello@audio-book.ai; we answer within a month.
If you think we have handled your data wrongly, please tell us first. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to the data protection authority of your own country.
7. Children
audio-book.ai is for adults. We don't knowingly keep data about anyone under 18.
8. Changes
When we change this policy we put the new date at the top. If the change matters to you, we tell you by email first.
